Welcome to the first post in my new blog. I want to help you be more successful at work. I'm
going to start off with tips on how you can make more money at your present job.


One thing that holds women back from making more money is the false idea that they can't
negotiate for higher salaries. I work with many smart and successful women who tell me that
they don't like negotiating and they're just not good at it. You may not like to negotiate, but I
doubt that you're not good at it. I bet that you negotiate every day but you just don't call it
negotiating.


Think about it - in a typical evening you might negotiate with your spouse about who is going to
pick up the kids after school the next day, you could negotiate with your friend about whose
turn it is to take the kids to soccer practice, and you could negotiate with your sister over who
is going to host Thanksgiving at their house this year. Yes, these are all negotiations that we
have every day. So stop thinking that you can't negotiate and start to recognize that you can get
other people to listen to what you have to say and agree with your ideas. Recognizing that you
do successfully negotiate in other areas of your life can help you to be more confident in your
work negotiations.
